High – Sport
Aerobics: Aerobics is offered throughout the year. This is suitable for people of all fitness levels and for those who specialise in other sports and need to supplement their fitness.
Athletics: A Summer Sport. Teams are chosen to participate in SASSA competitions. The school also holds an annual Inter-House Athletics Day.
Hockey: Our hockey teams have remained amongst the top in the province, with many Border and South African representatives. The All Girls’ Winter Festival and St Mary’s Festival are highlights for the 1st team. The Eunice Festival is a highlight for the u16A team and the Rob Taylor Festival for the u14A team.
Netball: Clarendon offers netball for all age groups and the top players for each age group are sent to district trials where many of the players are selected for teams. The First Netball Team season highlights are the All Girls’ Winter Festival and the Tour to George.
Power Walking: This is offered twice a week throughout the year as a good form of aerobic exercise.
Riding Society: Consists of girls representing Clarendon at horse shows and in the schools league. The girls participate in the annual Inter-Schools’ Horse Show and raise money for abused horses and donkeys.
Rowing: Clarendon is the only state girls only school in South Africa that offers rowing. Practice takes place on the Buffalo River and we participate in regattas all over South Africa including Knysna, Port Elizabeth and the SA Champs in Pretoria.
Swimming: There is a “Learn to Swim” program for beginners. We offer team and intermediate swimming for all grades. Team swimmers participate in a number of galas throughout the season including the Bryson Shield, Amakhosi and the Prestige Relay Galas. The highlight of the calendar is the All Girls Aquatics Festival.
Squash: Clarendon is one of the few schools with access to its own squash court facilities. 1st and 2nd Squash Teams receive professional coaching and the 1st team participates in the DSG Inter-Schools Festival, All Girls’ Winter Festival, Border Ladies League and the Top Schools tournament.(on invitation) Many girls represent Border and compete on a National level.
Tennis: Clarendon plays in local and mixed league with Selborne and hosts an annual Selborne/Clarendon Mixed Doubles Tournament. The First Team participates in various national tournaments and the National All Girls’ Winter Festival. A number of our players represent Border and compete on a provincial level.
Waterpolo: Clarendon has a proud history of producing top class Water polo players. Many of our past and present pupils are Border and SA representatives. Our teams participate in many events including the Alexander Road Tournament, National All Girls’ Aquatics Festival, Kingswood, Stayers (Centennial) and St Peter’s Tournaments. The Jason Murray Memorial Tournament is a highlight for under-14 teams.
